ELI — Privacy Policy

What ELI Does

ELI is a Chrome extension that explains text at different comprehension levels using AI. You highlight or type text, and ELI returns an explanation.

Data We Collect

Text you submit: The text you ask ELI to explain is sent to our server and forwarded to an AI provider (OpenRouter) to generate the explanation. We do not store your submitted text after the response is returned.

IP address: We use your IP address solely for rate limiting (tracking free-tier daily usage). IP-based rate limit counters are automatically deleted after 24 hours.

Payment information: If you upgrade to Pro, payment is handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your credit card details. We store a subscription token locally in your browser to verify your Pro status.

Data We Do NOT Collect

• We do not track your browsing history
• We do not collect personal information (name, email) unless you provide it to Stripe during checkout
• We do not use cookies or analytics trackers
• We do not sell or share any data with third parties

Local Storage

ELI stores the following in your browser's local storage (never sent to us):

• Your Pro subscription token (if applicable)
• Your preferred model setting (if using BYOK mode)
• Your OpenRouter API key (if using BYOK mode)

Third-Party Services

• OpenRouter (openrouter.ai) — processes AI requests. Subject to their privacy policy.
• Stripe (stripe.com) — processes payments. Subject to their privacy policy.
• Cloudflare (cloudflare.com) — hosts our backend. Subject to their privacy policy.
